Our Conductor – Christina Lawrence

Our Board of Directors

Margaret Klika

My name is Margaret Killa. This is my 54th season as a member of Chaminade Women’s Chorus. During those 54 years, I have served on every position on the chorus Board of Directors, including various terms as President of the chorus for six- and one-half years. I am retired and spent 42 working in the office at Appleton Papers Inc. (currently APPVION) in Appleton, WI. I have sung in churches choirs at Holy Angels (currently Holy Spirit) in Darboy, St. Patrick’s in Menasha and St. John’s in Little Chute since I was in high school. The thing that I enjoy most about Chaminade is all the friends I have made through the years. Some of my best friends today are past members of the chorus.

I began singing in choruses during elementary school in Kingsport, Tennessee, in the Glee Club.  In Junior High School, I became a member of the Mixed Chorus.  In High School, I was a member of the Mixed Chorus and the Madrigalians.

I also joined the Chancel Choir of First Presbyterian Church, in Kingsport.  I was a member of the Chorus at Virginia Intermont College, an all women, two-year college, and had the opportunity to travel on two Spring Tours and sing at churches and universities in North Carolina and Virginia.  I was also in the on-stage chorus in the musical, “Jo,” from Little Women.

After I was married, I sang in church choirs. While living in New Orleans, I sang the “Messiah” with a symphony chorus in New Orleans.  In Westfield, New Jersey, I was a member of a women’s chorus, the Chansonettes.  In Indiana, I joined the Evansville Philharmonic Chorus and sang with the Symphony Orchestra for Pop Concerts, Operas, etc.  Then, I moved to Appleton and became a member of Chaminade in 1999.  I also sang the “Messiah” with a community chorus.  I have also been a soloist for family and friends’ weddings and in churches.

As you can tell, I love to sing and enjoy being a 1st Soprano in Chaminade.  Wherever I have lived, I have been a choir member, and that has helped me feel at home by meeting other members in places without family nearby.  I am married and have two grown children and one grandson.
